Sabahar : An Ethiopian silk project

Last class we were all asked to bring a clothing of which we like and try reading the cloth.
We were also divided in groups and given a scarf each from a different region or country.

We had to try reading the material of the cloth an do a research about it.

I did a research on an Ethiopian silk shawl that is made by a company called Sabahar.
Sabahar produces beautiful, contemporary textiles for the global market and they also provide sustainable, respectful and fair employment to Ethiopian artisans.
They are the only company in the world producing textiles out of ethiopian silk.
All of their products are handmade and handspun.
They use two types of silk , Eri silk and Mulberry silk from their respective silk worms.
They use the cocoons from these silk worms to spin the silk.all their products are individually made by hands- hand spinning on drop spindles and spinning wheels, hand woven on traditional looms and many of our products are naturally dyed with flowers, trees, insects and plants.
They raise or domesticate their own silk worms , feed them until they are ready to make their cocoons. Once the silk worms have matured they move them into boxes so they can make cocoons.

It was interesting to learn about all the hard work and effort taken into making each and every piece of product they have made. I watched a video about the Sabahar company that really gave me an inside on how things work about there.
It basically shows the processes that the silk goes through until it reaches its final product.
I really found it interesting to know about the making of silk but personally I'm just against the use of silk
due to animal rights. So in that way , learning about the "beauty" of silk is just like learning about cruelty.
It's just a personal belief, i believe only in
BEAUTY WITHOUT CRUELTY
Learning about any material that does not come under that simply just disgusts me.
